Surgeons

The surgeons at the DVSC have all received specialized training in the field of small animal surgery. After receiving their Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degrees, the surgeons received extensive training in the management of surgical diseases by completing internships and residencies in Small Animal Surgery at various university teaching hospitals located across the United States. The Small Animal Surgery Residency programs are three year programs, and are sponsored by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS). The ACVS is the governing body responsible for the supervision and certification of surgeons. Surgeons

During their residencies, the surgeons at the DVSC became specialists in the disciplines of orthopedic, soft tissue, and neurosurgery. They also received extensive training in the disciplines of radiology, anesthesia, and pain management of dogs and cats.

   
Dr. Barstad

  • Master of Veterinary Clinical Sciences, Surgery: Iowa State University, 1986
  • Dr. Barstad is married and has a son and daughter. He has a Golden Retriever Kealey and a cat Tiger. His activities include family, woodworking, fly- fishing, and mentoring.
Dr. Bertrand

  • Dr. Bertrand is married with two sons. He enjoys boating as well as coaching and playing Rugby. He has a Golden Retriever Alex and a cat named Zoe.

  • Dr. Franks is married and has two children, Ashton, and Rienna, a Jack Russell Terrier, and two cats. She enjoys her childrens' activities, reading, travel, and beautiful beaches. Dr. Franks participates in Expanding Your Horizons workshops to introduce middle-school girls to careers in math and science.  She also walks yearly in the Komen for the Cure Breast Cancer 3 Day.
Dr. Lange

Douglas N. Lange, DVM

  • Board-certified member of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons
  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine: Texas A&M in 1989
  • Internship with the Sacramento Animal Medical Group
  • One year in private practice as a research assistant
  • Received advanced training in orthopedic and soft tissue procedures as well as neurosurgery
  • Assistant professor position at Oklahoma State University
  • Dr. Lange enjoys learning, gardening, woodworking, mountain-biking, and has a strong appreciation for the great outdoors and his friends and family.
Dr. McDonald

  • Dr. McDonald is married with two daughters and has two Jack Russell Terriers Jennie and J.R. and an Australian Shepherd Pacen. He enjoys ranching and anything to do with the Texas Aggies.

  • Dr Radasch is married and has two children, Madison and Jordan, as well as a crazy Wirehair Pointing Griffon named Sugar. He enjoys fly fishing, making bamboo fly rods, wilderness camping, and spending as much time as possible with his wife and children in Montana. 
Dr. Reaugh

H. Fulton Reaugh, DVM

  • Dr. Reaugh is married and has a daughter. His family also includes two Golden Retrievers and a cat. He enjoys quail hunting, ranching and spending time with family.
Dr. Wells

  • Internship: Private Practice-VCA West Los Angeles Veterinary Medical Center, 1991-1992
  • Residency in Small Animal Surgery: University of Tennessee, 1992-1995
  • Clinical Instructor in Small Animal Surgery: North Carolina State University, 1995-1997
  • Dr. Wells is married with two beautiful daughters. Her pets include two cats, a Rottweiller, and a Paint Horse. She enjoys traveling to foreign countries, horseback riding and participating in her children's activities.

  • Dr. Wilkens is married and has two sons. He is an active member of Grace Bible Fellowship church. In his free time, he enjoys exercising, reading, traveling, landscaping, and water gardens. He has a Labrador Retriever and a Golden Retriever at home. Dr. Wilkens is also an avid supporter of the Kansas State University Wildcats and the University of Tennessee Volunteers.
